Class 4 Laser Safety

Safety starts before we turn on the laser.

Each project is planned around the work area, material, nearby personnel, and facility requirements.

Planning is part of the service.

Laser Safety Officer oversight helps make sure the proper controls are in place before work begins. We also coordinate with the customer to follow site safety rules and permit requirements.

Project review

We review the base metal, coating or contamination, access, nearby hazards, and facility rules before setting up the job.

This review helps us decide whether laser cleaning is appropriate and what controls the site will require. Unknown materials or coatings must be identified before cleaning begins.

Controlled laser area

We use barriers, warning signs, and access controls to protect people outside the active laser work area.

Only approved personnel may enter the controlled area while the laser is operating. The size and layout of the work zone depend on the jobsite, nearby reflective surfaces, and the movement required to complete the work.

Protective equipment

We use laser eye protection and other safety equipment suited to the work. Fume extraction and respiratory protection are selected for the material being removed.

Eye protection must match the laser wavelength and power. Gloves, protective clothing, hearing protection, ventilation, and respiratory equipment are added when the material and work conditions require them.

Fire prevention and process control

We address combustible materials and ignition hazards, inspect the equipment, and test a small area before full cleaning begins.

A fire extinguisher is kept available, and the work area is checked for fuel, vapors, dust, and other ignition risks. The test area also confirms that the selected settings will not damage the base metal.
